Berlin

Brandenburger Tor, Berlin

September 1996

Our trip began in Berlin, after landing there, we took literally moments to drive through the city and to take a few pictures of some of the most notable landmarks.  In 1996, Berlin had more simultaneous construction projects underway than any other city in the world.  This due to the reunification of East and West Germany and the upcoming moving of the capitol from Bonn to Berlin.

What was surprising to me was the marked difference between the sectors in Berlin.  The sector  formerly under the control of the  East  German Democratic Republic (DDR) was in extreme need of rebuild and repair. This was more sharply defined later when we crossed the border from Germany to Poland.

From here we headed northwesterly to the Mecklenburg area of Germany.
